The advantage of the proliferation of cheap flights is that we can travel at any time without much thought to cost. Armed with a piece of promo tickets, me and a friend went to the tip of the island of Borneo, precisely in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
When someone hears the word Kinabalu, perhaps what comes to mind first is Mount Kinabalu. With a height of 4095 meters, this is the highest mountain in Borneo. But make no mistake, if you do not like to climb the mountain, many other attractions can be visited.
Kota Kinabalu Jesselton was formerly named the state capital of Sabah, situated overlooking the South China Sea. The city is a popular tourist destination for those visiting Borneo because it offers a combination of mountainous location, beaches, culture and shopping. Of course, the most visited by foreign tourists is Mount Kinabalu sports enthusiasts.
Mount Kinabalu is part of the State of Kinabalu Park, located about 90 miles from downtown. Although high enough, to climb the main peak of Mount Kinabalu, namely Low's Peak, no special skills required other than stamina good climbers. The roar of the waves and the smell of sea water coupled with twinkling lights will accompany your dinner. With a partner, this surely will be a romantic moment. Together with friends or family, remains a good time.
Other objects that exist in Kota Kinabalu is the Atkinson Clock Tower, one of the icons of this city. The clock tower was built in honor of Francis George Atkinson, the first District Officer of the City Jesselton. The clock tower is located in Signal Hill, made of wood as a whole without a single nail. The tower is the oldest building that survived the battle in the city during World War II Jesselton. Until now the clock is still functioning properly.
Other attractions can be visited in around Kota Kinabalu is Sabah Museum, Signal Hill, Kota Kinabalu Bird Sanctuary, or try a steam train on the North Borneo Railway from Tanjung Aru station to station said that within 36 miles.
When you are shopping enthusiasts, Kota Kinabalu is also the right choice. Shopping for souvenirs can be done in the Handicraft Market or Market Crafts is located at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens.
